Duke University Health System, one of state’s largest employers, plans to cut 280 jobs
Duke University Health System, one of the largest private employers in North Carolina, will cut about 280 positions, spokespeople for the system said.
The change comes after a months-long analysis of staffing, which Duke Health spokespeople said revealed opportunities to “realign the structure” of its operations.
Most of the positions will be cut by closing vacant positions, offering retirements and redeploying employees. Fewer than 50 employees, all in administrative and managerial roles, will be impacted by the change, spokespeople said.
This news comes about two months after several executives at one of the health system’s hospitals were removed after a “thorough assessment” of their performance, CBS 17 reported. Those executives included the chief financial officer, the chief nursing officer and the chief operating officer at Duke Regional Hospital.
The health system employs more than 23,000 full-time employees, making it the largest employer in Durham county and the fourth-largest in the state.
