Heading to Raleigh’s Dix Park for July 4th fireworks? What to know before you go

Are you ready for 4th of July fireworks?

The City of Raleigh is again this year holding its annual Independence Day fireworks celebration at Dorothea Dix Park.

This event is full of family fun and opportunities to make lifelong memories. Before you make your way to Dix Park, here is what you need to know to make your Independence Day great.

When is Raleigh’s 4th of July fireworks celebration?

Raleigh will hold its annual fireworks show on Tuesday, July 4

  • Park opens at 4:30 p.m.
  • Events start at 5 p.m.
  • Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Where will Raleigh’s 4th of July fireworks take place?

Raleigh’s fireworks display will be held at Dorothea Dix Park.

  • Dix Park is located at 1030 Richardson Drive.

Do I need a ticket for Dix Park on July Fourth?

No. Tickets are not required to enter the park.

Where can I park at Dix Park? (list of parking lots/decks)

Dix Park will be closed to vehicles (except for drop-off) on July 4. There will be multiple free parking options, including:

  • Moore Square Parking Deck – 223 S. Wilmington St.
  • Red Hat/City Center Parking Deck – 429 S. Wilmington St.
  • NC State University parking lots and decks on Centennial Campus (no shuttle service available, must walk to Dix Park)

Shuttles will be picking attendees up from Moore Square Park starting at 4:30 p.m. and will run until everyone is returned to Moore Square Park.

There will also be designated event parking along Centennial Parkway.

What if a family member or ride-share app is dropping me off?

If a family member or a ride-share app is dropping you off, get dropped off in the Chapel parking lot. The Chapel is located next to the Big Field where all the festivities will be at 1030 Richardson Drive. This is the preferred method of transportation, in order to decrease shuttle passengers.

Where is the ADA/Accessibility parking at the event?

If you are looking for ADA parking, do not park at the Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral located at 715 Nazareth St. The ADA parking will be located at Dix Park. Here’s how to find it:

  • Enter Goode Street from Lake Wheeler Road.
  • From there you will be directed to the parking lot.
  • There will be an ADA shuttle to take attendees to the Big Field with an accessible pathway.

Will there be food at Dix Park?

There will be 30 local food trucks at the event offering cuisines from all over the globe. To check out the full list of food trucks, go to raleighnc.gov.

What other activities will be at the event?

There will be family friendly events such as:

  • Art activities with Artsplosure
  • Slides
  • Skee ball
  • Foam party pit
  • Field games
  • Dancing

What should I bring with me to Dix Park?

You should bring things that will make your time at Dix Park more comfortable, such as:

  • Blankets
  • Small cooler with food and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Comfortable shoes (preferably close-toed)
  • Sunscreen and bug spray
  • Flashlights

What is not allowed at Dix Park?

To maintain the safety of yourself and others at the park, refrain from bringing;

  • Weapons
  • Alcohol
  • Smoking & Vaping
  • Open flames
  • Personal fireworks
  • Drones
  • Off-leash dogs (properly dispose of dog waste)
  • Litter
