Be prepared for intense traffic when driving around Chapel Hill Wednesday (July 19), as international soccer is coming to the college town.

If you’re going to watch the match between Chelsea and Wrexham at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan Memorial Stadium, here’s what to know about traffic patterns, game parking, shuttle options and more.

When & where is the Chelsea-Wrexham soccer match?

  • Date: Wednesday, July 19

  • Time: 7:30 p.m. Location: UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan Memorial Stadium

  • Address: 104 Stadium Drive in Chapel Hill

Recommended roads for the Chapel Hill soccer match

Avoid Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, said town spokesperson Alex Carrasquillo.

Instead, use Fordham Boulevard or N.C. 54 to get into town.

N.C. 54/Raleigh Road traffic will be routed onto 15-501 so that drivers can enter campus via Manning Drive, he said.

Traffic is expected to be heaviest 4-8 p.m. and 10-11:30 p.m., so plan your travels accordingly.

You can use Chapel Hill Transit’s Tar Heel Express to get to the stadium for the match.

Update: Park & Ride via Tar Heel Express tickets sold out on Tuesday morning, and tickets are no longer available for purchase. The Town of Chapel Hill encourages attendees to carpool.

If you already snagged, tickets, here’s what to know:

Schedule: Shuttles start at 5:30 p.m. Buses depart every 10 to 15 minutes or when full. The Tar Heel Express return service will end approximately 45 minutes after the match.

Pick-up locations: There are three:

  1. Southern Village Park and Ride: 105 Sumac Road. Parking is free.

  2. Friday Center Park and Ride: 100 Friday Center Drive. Parking is free.

  3. Carolina Coffee Shop: 138 E Franklin St. This is a pick up-only location, and parking is not guaranteed on Franklin Street. Note paying for a Tar Heels Express ticket does not guarantee parking in downtown lots.

Game parking in Chapel Hill for Chelsea-Wrexham match

Starting at 2 p.m. on July 19, a flat parking rate will apply for all town-owned and operated parking lots. Parking in the following areas will be $20 flat, and cash will not be accepted at parking meters.

  • Game parking is not allowed in downtown neighborhoods. Town signage will display areas for residential parking only.

  • Tailgating is not allowed in town parking lots.

Campus parking for Chelsea-Wrexham match

Parking passes will not be for sale at campus parking lots on the 19th, but you can order campus parking passes in advance.

Parking ranges from $40 to $80 across UNC-Chapel Hill’s parking lots.

You can get $40 passes, the least expensive option, at the following lots:

  • T (Tennis) Lot

  • South Chiller

  • Park Place/Forest Theatre

  • Jackson Deck

  • Hibbard Drive

  • UNC Systems Office Lot

  • Cardinal Deck

  • Ambulatory Care Center

  • 440 North Lot

Charter bus, RV parking for Chelsea-Wrexham match

RV parking: There’s no RV parking for this match at any UNC-Chapel Hill parking lot, neither on nor off campus.

Charter bus parking: Parking is designated on Bowles Drive near the Dean E. Smith Center. Parking passes are available for sale on the Carolina Athletics website, and no parking passes will be available on game day.
