Raleigh police identify 2 killed in I-40 crash that closed lanes for seven hours
Police on Monday identified two people killed in a weekend crash that closed four of five lanes on westbound Interstate 40 near Wade Avenue for more than seven hours.
Gregory Porter Jr, 35, was driving a Lexus sedan in the far-left lane around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, with Julian Turner, 30, in the front right passenger seat, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.
Another driver was operating a Subaru Legacy Outback traveling westbound in the middle lane, the release stated.
Investigators believe Porter was traveling at a high speed, weaved into the Subaru’s lane and collided with it.
The collision caused the Lexus to strike the guardrail and tree line, and eventual overturn.
The preliminary investigation also indicates the occupants of the Lexus were not wearing seatbelts, the release stated.
Porter and Turner died from their injuries.
The driver of the Subaru Legacy, whose name was not released suffered minor injuries.
No charges have been filed in this case.
