A 12-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon after drowning at a popular swimming area near Benson.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said the drowning happened around 1 p.m. at Tucker Lake on Allen Crossroads just off Interstate 40, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

The boy’s name has not been released.

Tucker Lake is a man-made lake and family-owned business dating back to 1990. The company’s website describes Tucker Lake as a 30-acre lake fed by clear, spring water with white sand beaches.

Tucker Lake and Recreation declined a request for comment Sunday from The N&O.
