The second busiest airline at Raleigh-Durham International Airport is still struggling to recover from the worldwide outage of Microsoft computers on Friday.

As of 11 am. Monday, Delta Air Lines had canceled 14 flights out of RDU, accounting for nearly all of the canceled flights for the day. Another five Delta flights were listed as delayed.

Delta’s CEO, Ed Bastian, said Friday’s outage forced the airline and its Delta Connection partners to cancel 3,500 flights going into its busiest weekend of the summer. With 90% or more of the seats on Delta flights already sold, the airline is having a hard time rebooking.

“I want to apologize to every one of you who have been impacted by these events,” Basian wrote in a statement Sunday afternoon. “Delta is in the business of connecting the world, and we understand how difficult it can be when your travels are disrupted.”

The computer outage originated with a software update by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company used by governments and businesses around the world. Among the businesses hardest hit were airlines, which canceled and delayed thousands of flights.

Delta offers meal vouchers, hotel accommodations and transportation to stranded passengers, where available, and says it is providing Delta SkyMiles and travel vouchers, “as a gesture of apology.”

It encourages customers to track the status of their flights on the Fly Delta app or at delta.com.

Through June, Delta has handled 26.5% of passengers at RDU, second only to American Airlines.
