Trash pickups change for Christmas & New Year’s. Here are the schedules for Triangle towns
Many local governments in the Triangle are closing for Christmas and New Year’s Day. That means trash and recycling pickup schedules may be affected for some residents.
Here’s when Triangle residents should expect their garbage and recycling to be collected. Towns and counties are listed alphabetically.
Apex holiday trash schedule
Apex residents whose garbage collection day falls on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 or Dec. 27 will be delayed one day, to Dec. 26, Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, respectively, for Christmas.
Residents whose typical collection day falls on Jan. 1, Jan. 2 or Jan. 3 will also be delayed one day, to Jan. 2, Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, respectively.

Carrboro holiday trash schedule
Residents whose garbage collection typically occurs Wednesday, Thursday or Friday are affected by the Christmas holiday.
- Wednesday collection will be Monday, Dec. 23.
- Thursday collection will be Friday, Dec. 27.
- Friday collection will be Monday, Dec. 30.
The week of Jan. 1, Wednesday collection will be picked up Tuesday, Dec. 31.
There is no yard waste or bulk waste collection the week of Dec. 25.
Curbside recycling will not be collected Dec. 25. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday recycling collections are delayed one day.
No curbside recycling will be collected Jan. 1. Collections that typically occur Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will each be delayed one day.

Cary holiday trash schedule
Garbage, recycling and yard waste typically collected on Wednesday is delayed to Dec. 26. and Jan. 2, and collections that typically occur on Thursday are delayed to Friday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Jan. 3.

Chapel Hill holiday trash schedule
Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers are closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.
The week of Christmas:
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday recycling service is delayed one day, to Dec. 26, Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, respectively.
- Commercial trash will not be collected Dec. 26. Collections will be completed by the end of the week.
- Residential trash collection is not affected. Yard trimming will not be collected Dec. 26 and Dec. 27, and there are no make-up days.
The week of New Year’s:
- Curbside recycling will not be collected Jan. 1, and starting Jan. 1, recycling collection will be delayed one day the rest of the week.
- Residential trash, yard trimmings and commercial trash will not be affected by New Year’s.

City of Durham holiday trash schedule
Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be delayed one business day beginning Wednesday, Dec. 25 through at least the first full week of January.
The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and Household Hazardous Waste Center are closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Durham County holiday trash schedule
Durham County Convenience Sites are closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Fuquay-Varina holiday trash schedule
Garbage will not be collected Wednesday, Dec. 25.
- Garbage for Monday and Tuesday customers will be collected Dec. 23.
- The green recycling route will be collected Dec. 24 instead of Dec. 25.
- Thursday and Friday customers are on a normal schedule.
During the week of New Year’s:
- Both Monday and Tuesday customers will have garbage collection on Monday, Dec. 30.
- The blue recycling route will be collected on Tuesday instead of Wednesday.
- Thursday and Friday customers are on a normal schedule.

Garner holiday trash schedule
No collections will occur Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, but collections should occur as normal Dec. 23-24 and Dec. 30-31.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collections may be delayed, but crews will work to get back on schedule.

Hillsborough holiday trash schedule
No garbage will be collected Dec. 24, Dec. 25 or Dec. 26.
- Collection typically scheduled on Tuesday will be collected a day earlier, on Dec. 23.
- Collections that usually occur on Wednesday and Thursday will be delayed to Friday, Dec. 27.
The first week of 2025, Wednesday and Thursday collections will occur on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Holly Springs holiday trash schedule
No garbage or recycling collection will happen Dec. 25.
Wednesday customers will be served on Thursday, Dec. 26, and Thursday customers will be served Friday, Dec. 27. Friday customers will be served Saturday, Dec. 28.
Yard waste for customers typically collected Tuesday-Friday will be collected Dec. 27-28.
The week of Jan. 1, garbage, recycling and yard waste collections are delayed one day starting Jan. 1. The convenience center is closed Jan. 1.

Knightdale holiday trash schedule
Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for all residents during the week of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Morrisville holiday trash schedule
Trash and recycling will not be collected Dec. 25.
- Collections scheduled for Dec. 25 will be pushed back to Dec. 26.
- Garbage, recycling and yard waste scheduled for collection Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Dec. 27 will be delayed one day.
Trash and recycling will not be collected Wednesday, Jan. 1
- Collections scheduled for Jan. 1 will be on Jan. 2.
- All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections on Jan. 1, Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 will be delayed one day.

Orange County holiday trash schedule
Orange County Waste & Recycling centers and the C&D Landfill are closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 and open Dec. 26.
The waste and recycling centers and landfill are also closed Jan. 1, 2025.
Raleigh holiday trash schedule
If your service day is Dec. 25 or Dec. 26, your service will be delayed one day.
If your service day is Jan. 1 or Jan. 2, your service will be delayed one day.
The Yard Waste Center is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Wake County holiday trash schedule
Solid Waste Convenience Centers and Multi-Material Recycling facilities are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. They also close at noon Dec. 24.
Wake Forest holiday trash schedule
No collections will occur Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
- Any garbage and recycling scheduled to be collected Dec. 25 will be picked up Dec. 26. Collections scheduled for Dec. 26 and Dec. 27 will also be delayed, to Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, respectively.
- Any garbage and recycling collections scheduled for Jan. 1, Jan. 2 or Jan. 3 will be delayed one day to Jan. 2, Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, respectively.
- Yard waste and loose leaves won’t be collected the week of Dec. 25.
- During the week of Jan. 1, yard waste will not be collected Jan. 1, but all routes will be collected Dec. 30, Dec. 31, Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.

Wendell holiday trash schedule
Christmas and New Year’s will not affect trash and recycling schedules for Wendell residents.
- Monday — A Week collections will be Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 as usual.
- Monday — B Week collections will be Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 as usual.
- Tuesday — A Week trash collections will be Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 as usual.
