Truck crashes into Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre after driver experiences medical emergency

A truck crashed into the Lincoln Theatre in downtown Raleigh on Monday morning after the driver experienced a medical emergency, police said.

Raleigh police responded to the music venue, at 126 East Cabarrus St., at about 9:22 a.m. after receiving reports of a “motor vehicle crash with injuries,” Lt. David Davis wrote in an email to The News & Observer.

Police think the driver hit the gas pedal in the pickup after experiencing the medical emergency. The driver, whose name has not been released, was transported to WakeMed hospital as a precaution and to be evaluated for minor injury.

The truck had been removed from the theater by 11 a.m.

Shattered glass, wood and other debris littered the sidewalk in front of the building, which was roped off with caution tape and marked as an “unsafe building,” according to a sign posted to the left of the front doors.

The next scheduled show at the Lincoln is set for Wednesday evening, according to its website.
