North Carolina native and “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery’s family is going to get a little bigger this fall. 

McCreery and his wife, Gabi Dugal McCreery, both from Garner, announced they are expecting their second child on Instagram Thursday, May 22.

“A new best friend coming this fall!” the post reads. 

The McCreerys welcomed their first child, baby boy Merrick Avery, in 2022, The News & Observer reported.

“We have begun a grand new adventure that will continue for the rest of our lives,” McCreery said after the birth of his first child.

Who is Scotty McCreery?

McCreery, 31, became a household name in May 2011 when he won the 10th season of “American Idol.” 

“It’s no secret that I love North Carolina and I love Garner, and Raleigh,” McCreery said in an interview with The N&O in 2021. “... I think they’re a huge reason why I won the show in the first place, Idol. They were humongous during that, and ever since then, they’ve always been so supportive.”

He and his wife married in 2018 at the Twickenham House & Hall in Jefferson. The couple now lives in North Carolina. Gabi has a background in nursing.

Scotty McCreery, NC State

In October, McCreery performed at Concert for Carolina, a benefit show to support storm victims in the Carolinas struggling from Hurricane Helene, alongside North Carolina natives Luke Combs and Eric Church, The Charlotte Observer reported.

The singer also released a remix of one of his hit singles called “Fall of Summer (NC State Version),” a tribute to his alma mater, after the N.C. State men’s and women’s basketball teams made historic NCAA Final Four runs last spring, The N&O reported.

McCreery recently dropped a new single titled “Bottle Rockets,” which incorporates elements from the 1994 Hootie & the Blowfish hit “Hold My Hand,” Parade reported. The track was written by Frank Rogers, a longtime collaborator of Hootie frontman Darius Rucker.

Hallmark released two movies in 2021 and 2022 based on McCreery’s hit song “Five More Minutes” with the same title, The N&O reported. Similar to the song, the “Five More Minutes” movie centers around the loss of a grandparent: Jerry, the owner of Candy Cane Confectionery, a store in the movie that has been bringing joy and delicacies to the community for over 50 years.
