An Alabama man accused of scamming several women on social media was arrested in Cary and is awaiting extradition to the Yellowhammer State.

Brenton Wayne Fillers, 56, is facing a felony larceny charge in Baldwin County, Alabama, court records show. He is being held at the Wake County Jail.

Fillers, dubbed the “TikTok trickster” by Alabama authorities, allegedly messages women on social media platforms to steal from them, Spanish Fort, Alabama, Police Chief John Barber told NBC 15. In 2023, Fillers messaged a Spanish Fort woman then stole her car, Barber said.

Court records show a judge set Fillers’ bond at $50,000 on Jan. 13, then lowered it to $15,000 on Jan. 14. Barber told NBC 15 on Jan. 15 that he normally doesn’t see bonds set for fugitives.

If Fillers posted bail, Barber told NBC 15 his department feared Fillers would slip away. Fillers has over 30 aliases and over 30 pages of arrest records across the country, Barber said. After a Texas case in which Fillers faced a child sexual abuse charge fell apart, Fillers was released before Spanish Fort police could have him held.

A Wake County judge increased Fillers’ bond to $500,000 on Jan. 16, court records show.
