Baseball is back at Five County Stadium.
A free fan festival will jumpstart the baseball activities on Thursday, May 21, before the inaugural game of the Zebulon Devil Dogz, a Coastal Plain League team, on Friday, May 22.
Inflatable games, batting practice on the field, player and coach meet-and-greets, autographs and other family-friendly activities are planned from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium, located at 1501 NC Highway 39, Zebulon. The event is free, but people are asked to RSVP online at zebulondevildogz.com/fan-fest.
Five County Stadium
The stadium, named for its proximity to Wake, Franklin, Nash, Johnston and Wilson counties, is owned by Wake County and the town of Zebulon. The 6,500-seat stadium was home to the Carolina Mudcats for 35 years until the team, in 2024, announced it would move to Wilson with a $70 million stadium.
“The town of Zebulon is excited to welcome the Zebulon Devil Dogz and the Coastal Plain League to Five County Stadium,” said Zebulon Mayor Jessica Daniels Harrison in a statement. “This partnership brings new energy and investment to the stadium while creating opportunities for families, residents and visitors to come together and enjoy baseball right here in Zebulon.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held before at 4:30 p.m. with remarks from Harrison and Wake County Commissioner Chair Don Mial on Thursday.
Devil Dogz first game
The Zebulon Devil Dogz will play against the Virginia Beach Valor. at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 22. Tickets are available online at zebulondevildogz.com.
The local governments picked Capitol Broadcasting Co., owners of the Durham Bulls, the Holly Springs Salamanders and WRAL, to lease and operate the stadium, and to develop the land around the venue.
“(Capitol Broadcasting) redeveloped Rocky Mount Mills and created the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the American Tobacco Campus – all flourishing facilities that offer top-tier restaurants and entertainment,” said Wake County Commissioner Susan Evans, during the announcement. “CBC has the knowledge and experience we need to turn Five County Stadium into a vibrant destination for residents and visitors, and we can’t wait for them to get started.”
