Raleigh police identify woman killed in Sunday hit-and-run near downtown

A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash just south of downtown Raleigh early Sunday morning, according to the city’s police report.

Officers responded to the crash along Interstate 40 near South Saunders Street at 12:15 a.m. First responders found Jena Shively, 33, in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Shively was walking in the eastbound lane of the highway before she was hit by a passing car. The driver of the car did not stop.

Shively was then hit by multiple cars afterward, police said.

Police have not released additional details about the vehicles involved and say the investigation is ongoing.
