Chatham Sheriff’s Office identifies Jordan Lake drowning victim as Raleigh teen

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has identified the teen who drowned in Jordan Lake on Monday as 19-year-old Fuad Nagi Busisou of Raleigh.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible drowning in the lake near the Moncure area around 3:30 p.m., according to a news release.

A witness reported seeing a person who appeared to be in his late teens struggling to stay above the water line in Jordan Lake near Clark Poe Road, the release stated.

Rescue units from the Sheriff’s Office, Moncure Fire Department, North Chatham Fire Department, N.C. State Parks Police, N.C. Wildlife Law Enforcement, Army Corps of Engineers, First Health of the Carolinas, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Busisou’s body was recovered at 6:35 p.m.

“Our deepest sympathy is with the family and friends of the victim at this time of unexpected and tragic loss,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in the release. “We are grateful for the outpouring of support offered by our public safety partners in this search and rescue effort.”
