Durham police have identified a man killed Friday afternoon while riding his motorcycle on N.C. 98 near Chandler Road.

Jeffrey Lee Eaddy, 45, of Durham, was riding his 2002 Yamaha motorcycle east on N.C. 98 just before 4 p.m. when he hit the back of a 2008 Jeep waiting to turn left onto Chandler Road, police said in a news release.

The motorcycle then crossed the yellow line into oncoming traffic and ran into a 2018 Nissan work van.

Eaddy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported, but the crash shut down N.C. 98 from Chandler Road to Lynn Road for several hours Friday.

Police do not expect to file charges in the wreck, a spokesperson said.

Anyone with information about the crash can call Investigator G. Munter at 919-560-4935, ext. 29448.
