Man allegedly killed by juvenile was trying to break up argument, Durham police say
Police are investigating a shooting in East Durham that left one man dead Monday afternoon.
Officers responded to the 1100 block of South Hoover Road at about 2:15 p.m. to a report of a gunshot wound, Durham police said Monday.
Police learned on the scene that a juvenile male was allegedly arguing with a female when a man tried to intervene. The juvenile then shot the man before fleeing, police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, they said, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident. They have not said whether a suspect has been identified or what the argument was about.
As of May 30, a total of 83 people had been shot in Durham this year, 11 of them fatally, the latest police statistics show.
