Homophobic graffiti found on Duke dorm wall
Duke University police and administrators are investigating an incident in which homophobic and threatening language written on a dormitory wall on East Campus targeted a student there.
A statement from the school said the message, whose contents were not disclosed, was written late Wednesday or early Thursday.
The statement did not identify the student, but the campus student newspaper, The Chronicle, named a male freshman. All Duke freshmen are assigned to housing on East Campus, on West Main Street.
In the statement, Michael Schoenfeld, Duke vice president for public affairs and government relations, said other students gathered to support the victim of the graffiti.
“The swift and passionate response by Duke students to this cowardly act, like others before it, demonstrates the integrity and principles of the Duke community far more than any anonymous graffiti,” Schoenfeld said.
