More than a year later, NC troopers still looking for driver in fatal hit and run

It’s been more than a year since a car or truck hit and killed John Lewis Aldridge along Wilkerson Road north of Hillsborough, and the State Highway Patrol is still looking for the driver.

The Highway Patrol is again asking anyone with information about Aldridge’s death to get in touch. Troopers think someone may have seen or heard something that could help them track down the driver.

Aldridge, 28, parked at Schley Grange Hall the evening of July 7, 2021, before going for a run, according to investigators. He was last seen about 9 p.m. running along Walnut Grove Church Road and turning onto Wilkerson Road.

Aldridge was found early the next morning, about 770 feet north of the intersection. He was apparently walking or running north, facing traffic, when he was hit by a southbound car or truck, investigators reported last year.

Troopers found no pieces of a car or truck at the scene to tell them what kind of vehicle hit Aldridge, Trooper Brandon Baker said last year. But Baker said the vehicle likely sustained some damage that people might notice.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said the damage could be in the right front headlight area of the vehicle.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the State Highway Patrol at 336-334-5500.
