3,000 lose power in Chapel Hill on Thursday morning, Duke Energy outage map shows

Nearly 3,000 Duke Energy customers are without power in Chapel Hill as of Thursday morning.

The outage was first reported at 8:45 a.m., according to a Duke Energy power outage map.

The 2,983 power outages are located near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard north of downtown Chapel Hill and the UNC campus.

The cause of the outage is listed as unknown. Duke estimates that power may be restored by 11:15 a.m.
