Carrboro High School has been evacuated due to a bomb threat.

A juvenile student at Carrboro High has been accused of making the bomb threat that led to the evacuation of the school Wednesday, officials announced Thursday.

On Wednesday morning, all students and staff were evacuated to the athletic fields after an email made “specific threats” against the school on Rock Haven Road around 9 a.m.

About 40 minutes later, school officials announced that classes were being canceled for the rest of the day.

Students were transported to Culbreth Middle School where parents could pick them up. Parents were told not to go to Carrboro High while the investigation remained underway. Culbreth continued with classes for the day, officials said.

The bomb threat was not credible, according to an afternoon statement from the district.

Classes resumed on a normal schedule Thursday for both schools.

On Thursday afternoon, Carrboro police announced that a student at the school had been taken into custody and served with a juvenile petition for making a “false report concerning destructive device,” a class H felony.

Because the student is under 18, police are not releasing the child’s name.
