Rabid raccoon found injured in Apex

An injured raccoon that was found on the side of the road and taken indoors has tested positive for rabies.

A resident picked up the raccoon near Cabin Wood Court in Apex on Tuesday, according to Wake County.

The animal tested positive for rabies on Thursday, according to the county.

In a news release Thursday, Wake County officials said residents should "never handle wildlife." Instead, Wake County Animal Control recommends that residents call 919-212-PETS.
