Teen shot and killed off New Bern Avenue in late-night crime in east Raleigh

Raleigh police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenage boy on Duckling Way, a small street off New Bern Avenue.

Officers found Zaequan Deloatch, 17, shot on the 5400 block at about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday. He died later of his wounds at WakeMed.

It was one of two homicides that occurred in Raleigh Wednesday night. Joseph Brooks Lee, 31, was fatally shot after getting into a fight with Luis Alberto Rodriguez at the Carolina Open Air Market on Poole Road, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said. Rodriguez is charged with murder.

There have been four homicides in Wake County in 2020 so far, with three of them investigated by the Raleigh Police Department.

Quadir Ford, 22, was shot outside the Worthdale Community Center and Jameel Leon Barnes, 26, was shot in the 2100 block of Nelson Street in January.
