Wake County’s website restored as hundreds scramble to make COVID test appointments
Wake County’s website was offline for most of the business day Tuesday, leaving some worried about getting tested for COVID-19 before Christmas.
“We’re experiencing technical difficulties with our website and are working hard to get it fixed ASAP,” Wake County tweeted. “We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!”
The outage began around 9:30 a.m. with the website back online at 5:15 p.m., the county reported. The outage was caused by a software update, according to a Tuesday afternoon press release.
While not able to reach Wake County’s website directly, people could still sign up for a vaccine or COVID-19 test.
The website to get a COVID-19 test is https://wakegov.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6A37b8HlUPXbTrU

As of Tuesday morning, Wake County had about 8,000 open testing appointments available before Christmas, according to a Wake County spokesperson.
Despite the outage, Wake County says the testing and vaccinations were able to continue without “major interruption.”
According to the news release, 6,475 appointments were made or modified as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, compared with 8,730 COVID-19 tests scheduled through Wake County on Monday.
