GoRaleigh driver is cited after bus crash kills one person, police say

A driver died Monday after getting into a wreck Sunday with a GoRaleigh bus south of downtown Raleigh, the Raleigh Police Department confirmed.

Both the driver and passenger were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Police have not released the driver’s identity.

The wreck happened around 11:15 a.m. when a 2005 Acura traveling north on Garner Road approaching an intersection with Peterson Street struck the bus that was making a left turn onto Garner, according to a police investigation.

One bus passenger was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury.

Images from the scene of the wreck by ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partners, shows a totaled blue vehicle with its top, hood, windshield and doors torn off.

The bus driver was cited for failure to yield causing serious bodily injury, said police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan.

The crash remains under investigation.
