Raleigh’s Fourth of July fireworks show is headed to Dix Park. What you need to know.
Raleigh’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show is moving to Dix Park.
The show has changed locations a handful of times in recent years, first in downtown then at PNC Arena. This will be the first year the show will be at Dorothea Dix Park.
Gates open at 6 p.m. July 4 and the event will include music and lawn games on the park’s Big Field before the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Bring a blanket, picnic and water bottles. No food trucks are planned.
There is no sign-up or registration needed to attend the free event.
People may not bring alcohol, personal fireworks and drones to the park and fireworks show.
The park, the city’s largest park located just outside downtown, will not be open for event parking. You’ll need to either take a shuttle, bike, walk or ride-share to the park.
How to get there?
Free event parking will be available in two downtown parking decks: Moore Square Parking Deck, 223 S. Wilmington St., and Red Hat/City Center Parking Deck, 429. S. Wilmington St.
Free parking will also be available in some N.C. State University parking lots and on parking decks on Centennial Campus. Those parking entrances are at the intersection of Centennial Parkway and Oval Drive and at the intersection of Centennial Parkway and Achievement Way.
The city is organizing free shuttles to carry people from Centennial Campus and Moore Square in downtown Raleigh starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m.
The city warns there are limited shuttles and people should prepare to arrive early.
There will be handicap-accessible parking and viewing at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, 715 Nazareth St. And people must have a valid placard.
Rideshare drop-off and pick-up will be at Western Boulevard and South Boyland Avenue.
People are also encouraged to walk or bike to the park using the Rocky Branch Greenway or Centennial Bikeway Connector.
