After 28 years, the only Barnes & Noble in Cary is turning the page.

The national chain bookstore has been in the Cary Commons center at 760 S.E. Maynard Road across from the former Cary Towne Center. The mall was demolished last year.

The store will now move two miles away to the Shoppes of Kildaire at 1311 Kildaire Farm Road.

The 40,000 square-foot bookstore will move into the old Fitness Connection location next to Aldi, according to the store’s Facebook page.

Other retailers in the Shoppes of Kildaire include Staples, City BBQ, Massage Envy, Hallmark and Trader Joe’s.

Cary’s Barnes & Noble announced the move on social media in February and said the community would not be left without a bookstore.

“While we are sad to be leaving this location after a very happy 28 years of bookselling, we look forward to all the advantages of starting afresh with a brand-new bookstore,” the post read.

The store’s location was bought by MDO Holdings, a Raleigh-based investment firm, for $7.09 million in 2018, according to the Triangle Business Journal, which reported the news first.

The new Kildaire location will be about 27,000 square feet, according to the Shoppes of Kildaire, and will include the B&N Cafe.

The new location opens on July 5, according to the bookstore.

Moving sale in effect

To prepare for the move, the bookstore is currently having a sale of 40-75% off almost every item in the store. The sale will end on June 27, as the location officially closes.

Hardcover classic novels, Manga, history, books in all genres, collections like the Harry Potter book series are included in the sale. Other items on sale are magazines and further reduced prices on sale items.

Even the coffee tables and chairs in the store’s Starbucks area are on sale for $10 to $40.

The sale is only available at the Cary location.

The Cary Barnes & Noble is the only location for western Wake County. Other locations are in Raleigh and Durham.
