Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s visit to Raleigh may cause some brief traffic headaches Thursday afternoon, but precisely where and when isn’t clear.

Walz, the Democratic candidate for vice president, is attending a private fundraiser. His campaign has not publicly acknowledged the visit, but news has leaked out, along with some scant details.

Politico reports that Walz is coming to Raleigh after he and running mate Kamala Harris tape a joint interview with CNN. The interview is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. in Atlanta. Assuming some time in the studio, in transit to the airport and on the plane to Raleigh, Walz is not likely to arrive at Raleigh-Durham International Airport until late afternoon.

That would have police making way for his motorcade right around rush hour.

Walz’s destination hasn’t been disclosed, though WRAL says the invitation indicates that it’s in the “midtown” area of Raleigh. From RDU, Walz’s motorcade could take one of several routes toward that part of town, including Glenwood Avenue, Interstate 40 to the Beltline or Interstate 540 to either Creedmoor, Six Forks or Falls of Neuse roads.

It’s also not clear when Walz and his entourage will return to RDU or how they will get there.

But the campaign would be smart to avoid the Beltline and Wade Avenue, where tens of thousands of N.C. State Wolfpack fans will be arriving for the football season opener against Western Carolina University. The game at Carter-Finley Stadium starts at 7 p.m.
