Cary calls in bomb squad after potentially explosive device brought to Police Department
The next time someone finds a possible homemade bomb, the Cary Police want them to leave it where it is.
A “potential explosive device” brought to the Cary Police Department on Thursday turned out not be one, police said.
It was brought in around 3:30 p.m. by a resident, “unaware of the potential danger,” who wanted to report a family member making suspicious devices, according to a news release.
Police secured the area and called in the Raleigh Police Department Bomb Squad.
The squad removed the device, which WRAL helicopter footage showed was in a reddish-orange box labeled “explosives” in the parking lot.
It turned out not be explosive, though Cary Police did not describe what was in the box or provide any details.
Police are speaking with the family member suspected of making the device to determine if they need to intervene further.
“While we are thankful that the device was not explosive and no one was injured, we caution residents from handling potentially dangerous items,” Sgt. Kenric Alexander. said in the release.
“If a resident believes they have found an explosive device or suspicious package, leave the item where it is and call 911,” he said.
