Gunfire sends 1 to hospital, snarls I-40 traffic during morning commute

A shooting incident on Interstate 40 on Friday sent one person to the hospital and delayed traffic during the morning commute.

Deputies were called to the scene near North Harrison Avenue at 6:20 a.m. and found a vehicle on the side of the road, according to a news release

The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries from an apparent gunshot wound, and the right lane was blocked while deputies collected evidence.

Authorities have not released any other details. Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
