1 dead in Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day late-night crash

A man was killed in a single-car wreck in Raleigh on Monday night, police said.

A man was killed in a car crash in east Raleigh late Monday night, police said.

Donnie Nesbitt, 52, was driving a 2016 Honda Accord northbound on South New Hope Road and New Rogers Lane at 11:27 p.m. when he crashed into a tree, according to a news release.

Nesbitt was speeding through a curve when he hit a curb and veered off the road to the right, striking the tree, the release stated.

That section of New Hope Road was briefly closed Monday night and early Tuesday morning as police investigated. No one else was injured or involved in the crash, police said.
