Durham woman charged with hitting Spectrum employee while driving drunk in Cary
A driver was charged late Saturday night after a Spectrum employee was hit and critically injured while working on the side of the road in Cary.
Cary police arrested Juanita Ramirez, 36, of Durham after they say she crashed, hitting the field maintenance manager around 10:20 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Green Level Church Road and Kit Creek Road.
The employee was repairing a fiber cut at the time of the crash, Spectrum officials said Sunday in an email. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of critical injuries, police said.
“Our thoughts are with our employee and his loved ones during this difficult time,” Spectrum officials said.
Court records show Ramirez had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 after the crash — more than twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08.
Ramirez is charged with driving while impaired, felony serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, failure to reduce speed, and failure to maintain lane control, jail records show.
She is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash, they said.
