Federal officials have charged a man with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers, accusing him of ramming his car into ICE agents’ vehicles in Morrisville.

Milton Ermilo Arreaga Roblero, 23, was charged Dec. 4, court records show. Federal deportation officers were trying to detain a different man who had a deportation order for removal on Dec. 2.

“Assaulting a federal officer is an attack on the rule of law itself,” U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said in a Tuesday release. “When someone allegedly drives a vehicle to threaten or endanger ICE agents, we treat it with the utmost seriousness. We have zero tolerance for conduct that puts our officers or the public at risk, and this office will take every lawful step to protect our families, officers, and communities.”

Officers surveilled an area of Chapel Hill Road to attempt an arrest, according to the criminal complaint. An officer saw a Hispanic man matching the description of the suspect enter a red Honda Civic around 10:40 a.m. and started to follow him. The man in the Honda Civic was Roblero — he was the only person in the car. The man they were looking for was the owner of the car, a different person, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

A second officer went to a different part of Chapel Hill Road, following the suggested “pattern of life” that the suspect would travel to the Sangam Mart at the same location, the complaint states. A third officer then used their vehicle to block the Civic from entering the main parking lot and turned on their emergency lights.

The Civic came to a complete stop. The third officer exited their car and gave commands of “Police, stop,” the complaint stated. The officer wore a green ballistic vest with “POLICE” across the chest. The Civic then allegedly backed up and hit the first officer’s car — then drove forward and hit both the second and third officers’ cars. The third officer got out of the way before he was hit.

The Honda Civic collided with the second officer’s car again, then drove over a curb through a garden bed before hitting an unrelated vehicle and coming to a full stop, the complaint stated.

Roblero came out of the car and was taken into custody, the complaint stated. Officers determined that Roblero had a final order of deportation through Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
