Winds down power lines, force NC 55 between Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs to close

A section of N.C. 55 between Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs will be closed until 6 p.m. Thursday.

The highway will be closed between the Holly Springs Walmart and Dickens Road in Fuquay-Varina, Fuquay-Varina town spokesperson Susan Weis said in a Thursday statement.

Strong winds downed five power lines and numerous trees along the highway.

MasTec crews are on site working to restore power and clear the area, Weis said. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the affected section of N.C. 55.
