Raleigh’s Fourth of July fireworks show returning to Dix Park with bigger budget

People celebrating the country’s 250th birthday this year can stop by Dix Park for Raleigh’s 4th of July fireworks show this year.

The park hosted the Fourth celebration from 2022 to 2024 before the city moved it to the area around the Lenovo Center and Carter Finley Stadium in 2025.

Raleigh has budgeted $660,000 for this year’s Independence Day celebration, which falls on a Saturday and will mark the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Previously, the city has budgeted $60,000 for fireworks and received a $100,000 contribution from ABC11 for the celebration.

That money is once again budgeted for the celebration alongside an additional $500,000 the City Council approved Tuesday.

The additional funds will aid with programming, logistics, sanitation, public safety and transportation.

The city’s parks and recreation department is still working on many of the details of the celebration, city spokesperson Julia Milstead said.

The council approved the money for the event Tuesday, the day after hearing a presentation on significant budget issues for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Raleigh is looking at a $13 million shortfall and likely tax increase in the upcoming budget, even if spending is kept at current levels.
