An East Wake High School student is expected to face juvenile petitions after bringing a loaded gun to the school, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said it received a report Tuesday of a student having a firearm at East Wake. The school resource officer worked with school administration to find the student. No injuries were reported.

Due to the student’s age, the Sheriff’s Office did not name the student or provide additional details such as the type of gun brought to the school.

In its Tuesday afternoon news release, the Sheriff’s Office asked residents to properly secure their firearms and promoted its free gun locks.

“We thank the staff member for reporting the incident and our school resource officers for responding quickly to the threat,” Sheriff Willie Rowe said. “The safety of our schools is a priority of this office. A weapon on campus is never a joke; it is a serious crime.”

The investigation is going, the Sheriff’s Office said.
