A Garner teen faces multiple charges after an incident involving a firearm and drugs at his high school Thursday.

It happened about 10:40 a.m. when the school resource officer at South Garner High School responded to a tip about a person doing drugs in the parking lot and police were called to the school.

Jayden Andrew-Lane Curtis, an 18-year-old student at the school, was arrested on charges of having a gun on an educational property, altering/removing a gun serial number, resisting a public officer, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia, Garner police said.

According to the warrant, a Garner police officer was trying to detain Curtis when Curtis allegedly got into his vehicle, locked the door and “refused to get out of the vehicle and continued to stick his hand under the seat.”

Curtis is accused of keeping that vehicle to sell marijuana, and police found rolling papers, marijuana and a 9 mm pistol either in the vehicle or on Curtis, the warrant alleges.

Police credited the school’s resource officers and administrators with working “quickly together to ensure the safety of students and staff,” Garner Police Capt. David J. Casteline said in a news release. No one was injured during the incident, he said.

No bail amount appeared to have been set for Curtis as of Thursday afternoon.
