Teenager killed, juvenile injured in Northwest Raleigh car crash, police say
A car crash in Northwest Raleigh on Saturday afternoon killed a teenager and injured a juvenile, the Raleigh Police Department said.
Officers and the Raleigh Fire Department went to the scene on Arco Corporate Drive near Macaw Street at 1:14 p.m., police said. There they found a white 2022 Chevy Blazer on fire. Preliminary investigation indicates the Chevy was speeding when it veered off the roadway and hit two trees, setting part of the vehicle on fire.
The driver, Abraham Karim Manrique Ponce, 18, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Chevy when it crashed, police said. He was taken to a hospital but died of his injuries.
A juvenile in the passenger seat was wearing his seat belt and got out of the car on his own, police said. He went to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Raleigh police’s investigation is ongoing.
