Raleigh man charged in fatal I-87 crash. What his driving record shows
A Raleigh man was charged with involuntary manslaughter and other offenses after police said he caused a fatal crash Sunday night on Interstate 87.
The State Highway Patrol arrested Wimandre Anton Hendricks, 33, on eight charges, including felony involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor death by vehicle and exceeding safe speed, in a crash that killed Derick Dewayne Wright and seriously injured Dante Moliek Barnes, according to a warrant.
Hendricks was also charged with reckless driving, driving without a license, expired/no inspection and unsafe tires — all violations that served as the proximate cause of Wright’s death, the warrant states.
Highway Patrol officers also wrote Hendricks was driving at a speed “greater than was reasonable” under Sunday night’s rainy conditions.
It’s unclear how fast Hendricks was traveling or what condition Barnes is currently in. The Highway Patrol did not immediately return a request for comment.
According to court records, Hendricks has a history of traffic offenses, including a DWI charge in 2019 and multiple past charges for driving without a license after it was revoked for impaired driving.
Hendricks refused a blood alcohol test after the crash Sunday, court documents show.
A judge set $250,000 bail for Hendricks on Monday, noting he has a history of similar offenses and violations of court-imposed restrictions. Hendricks appeared in Wake County District Court on Monday afternoon.
