Durham drug probe brings 81 charges for suspect, snags half-pound of cocaine
Anti-drug police officers arrested a 32-year-old man Tuesday on 81 felony drug charges and confiscated more than a half-pound of cocaine following what police said was a long investigation.
Maurice Antoine King was charged with multiple counts of cocaine trafficking, conspiracy to traffic, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, possessing cocaine and selling cocaine.
According to police, King had 258.4 grams of cocaine when they arrested him at a home. That is equivalent to 0.57 pounds, or 9.1 ounces.
The arrest came after “a long-term investigation” by Durham vice and narcotics investigators, spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Wednesday. The specific length of the investigation was not disclosed.
King was convicted of felony drug offenses in 2008 and 2010.
King was convicted in 2011 of illegal gun possession, and Durham officers who work on a task force with federal firearms agents were part of the arrest, Michael said.
King also was convicted of three counts of kidnapping and one count of taking indecent liberties with a child in Durham in 2004.
