Durham police make arrest in Oakley Square homicide

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with murdering a man at an apartment complex on Cheek Road on Monday morning.

Shatique Kamal Skinner of Durham is accused of shooting Frederick Edgerton at the Oakley Square apartment complex at 1835 Cheek Road.

Edgerton, 52, was found dead in a parking lot after police responded to a shooting call at 8:41 a.m. Monday.

Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting, but they say it was not a random act, suggesting Skinner and Edgerton knew each other.

Skinner was arrested without incident Thursday in the 600 block of Mimosa Street.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Investigator M. Evans at 919-560-4440, ext. 29336, or Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
