N&O, Herald-Sun receive award to support investigative reporting on NC court system
The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun have received an award from ProPublica to support investigative reporting on the North Carolina court system.
ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom based in New York. Through its Local Reporting Network, it bolsters accountability journalism at local news organizations.
On Wednesday, ProPublica named Carli Brosseau among 13 reporters joining the network in 2020.
Brosseau was part of a team that won a McClatchy President’s Award for Journalism Excellence last year for coverage of gentrification and neighborhood change in Durham. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, she joined The News & Observer as a data reporter in 2018. Her previous work at The Oregonian in Portland, Oregon, and the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Arizona, won state and national awards.
As part of the program, ProPublica reimburses the local reporter’s salary and benefits, and provides help with editing, data, research and engagement.
