Police arrest suspect in New Year’s Day sexual assault of Apex jogger

Raleigh police arrested a man Wednesday who is suspected of sexually assaulting a jogger in Apex on New Year’s Day.

Adam John Sipes, 30, was arrested on Delta Lake Drive, according to arrest records. The Fuquay-Varina man is charged with attempted second-degree forcible rape, kidnapping and sexual battery.

The incident occurred on Jan. 1 near Olive Chapel Elementary School, The News & Observer’s media partner, ABC11 reported. The 21-year-old woman was walking to her car when the man assaulted her on Kelly Park Road, investigators told ABC11.

Surveillance cameras helped identify the man, ABC11 reports. Apex investigators got a tip about Sipes on Dec. 6, ABC11 reported.

Sipes is being held on $750,000 bail.
