Fleeing robbery suspect crashes car, runs away near downtown Raleigh

An early-morning robbery led to a police chase and crash near downtown Raleigh on Monday, ending after the suspect jumped and ran from his car.

Officers got a report of an armed robbery at the BP gas station on Louisburg Road at about 7:30 a.m. and found a speeding car near Milburnie Road shortly afterward, Raleigh police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said.

They pursued the car down Oakwood Avenue until the fleeing suspect hit a curb on Swain Street, where he jumped out. He was soon captured nearby.

No one was hurt, Hourigan said. Police found evidence from the robbery in the car.

The investigation continues.
