Two dead at Durham home, after police standoff with alleged shooter
Police say two men died of gunshot wounds Monday morning after a “confrontation” between the two inside a home in eastern Durham.
Officers responded to a call in the 200 block of Walton Street near Wedgedale Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man outside a house who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to police Capt. Melissa L. Bishop.
After a brief standoff, police then entered the home and found another man dead from a gunshot wound, Bishop said in a news release.
Late Monday, police said the man they found outside was Dayshawn Montez Jones, 27, of Durham, and that the man inside was Stacey Lemar Breeze, 31, of Hillsborough.
ABC11, The News & Observer’s TV news partner, reported that Breeze took his own life, but Bishop would not confirm that Monday evening.
Police released no additional details, though they did say they were not looking for any suspects.
As of Jan. 11, there had been one homicide in Durham this year, compared to four by the same date a year ago, according to Police Department statistics.
Durham police are also investigating a shooting in the 1100 block of Briar Rose Lane that injured a 14-year-old boy around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to ABC11. The boy, whom neighbors said was caught in crossfire, was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
