Police identify woman killed and man injured in brief Graham police chase

A woman died and a man was seriously injured in a brief Graham police chase early Saturday morning.
Officers responded around 12:40 a.m. to reported gunshots near West Harden and Oneida streets, a Graham Police Department news release states.
As officers cleared the call, a dark-colored Dodge traveling over 70 mph, which they believed might have been involved in the gunfire, passed one of the officers, the release states.
The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver continued into Burlington on South Sellers Mill Road, resulting in a pursuit, the release states.
About a minute into the chase, the driver traveled through the intersection of South Sellers Mill Road and North Church Street at a high rate of speed, lost control and struck a utility pole, trees and a fence, the release states.
Kalani Graves, 33, of Graham was trapped in the front passenger area of the car and died soon after arriving at a hospital, a Monday release stated.
Davonn Bunting, 32, also of Graham, was ejected from the car and suffered serious injuries, the release stated.
The Burlington Police Department is investigating the crash.
A Graham police administrative review on whether officers followed police policy will follow the fatal crash, which is standard procedure, according to the release.
