Three men arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Durham

Police arrested three men Wednesday and charged them with murder in connection with a fatal shooting on Hillsborough Road on Sunday.

Otha Watson, 26, of Durham died at the hospital Sunday after police found him shot around 2 a.m. in the 3600 block of Hillsborough Road, the Durham Police Department said Monday in a news release.

The suspects are 25-year-old Rashawn Harwell and 28-year-old Larry Harwell, who are brothers, and 27-year-old Taylor Jones, all residents of Durham. An earlier report from the Durham Police Department incorrectly said all three men are brothers.

Durham police officers arrested them Wednesday with help from the FBI Raleigh-Durham Safe Streets Task Force and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from Durham police on Wednesday afternoon.

The three men were each charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. They are being held in Durham County Jail without bond.

Police said the victim knew the suspects.

A woman was also injured in the shooting but her injures appeared not to be life threatening, according to the release.

As of Aug. 22, more than 189 people had been shot in 158 incidents in Durham this year, The News & Observer has reported.

Twenty of the incidents involved more than two people who were shot, police said.
