Police in Wilson have charged a second person in connection with the August shooting death of a 5-year-old boy.

Aolani Takemi Pettit, 21, was charged as an accessory after the fact Tuesday, police said. She was scheduled for a first appearance in Wilson County court Wednesday.

In mid-August, Cannon Hinnant was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding his bicycle in the front yard.

Police charged Cannon’s next-door neighbor, 25-year-old Darius Sessoms, with first-degree murder. Later in August, his mother Carolyn said her son shot Cannon in a drug-fueled haze that her family was powerless to stop.
