Police charge teen with fatally shooting 17-year-old at Wake County vape shop
Zebulon police have arrested a 19-year-old in a fatal shooting of a teenager at a vape shop Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to a call at 407 W. Gannon Ave. just after 6 p.m., where they found Carlton Lamont Damon Jr, 17, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was shot in the parking lot, and then ran inside the shop, police said.
Damon was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Zebulon police initially asked the community to help identify a person of interest in the case.
Javion Zyrrell Whitfield, a 19-year-old Wendell resident, has since been charged with murder.
“This type of activity is uncommon for our small town,” Police Chief Jacqui Boykin said in a statement on Facebook. “It is heartbreaking to deal with such a senseless act in our community.”
Zebulon, the easternmost town in Wake County, has about 5,400 people, according to the U.S. Census.
