Durham police are investigating after a man was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on N. Duke Street Wednesday.

A man was walking his dog and crossing the street at the intersection of North Duke Street and West Markham Avenue when he was struck by a light colored sedan, police said in a release Friday. The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m.

The man suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital. Police did not say what his condition was as of Friday.

The sedan was traveling north on North Duke Street and fled the scene of the crash without stopping, police said.

The News & Observer has asked Durham police about the condition of the man and whether speeding was a factor in the accident.

Police provided a photo from a Nest doorbell camera, which shows a light colored sedan that police say is the vehicle involved in the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash or the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to call Investigator Henry with the department’s Traffic and Crash Team at 919-560-4935, ext. 29449, or Crimestoppers at 919-683-1200.
