Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run in Smithfield, police search for suspect

A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run Thursday night in Smithfield, and authorities are looking for a suspect.

Smithfield police arrived at the 400 block of West Market Street around 9:05 p.m. The pedestrian was pronounced dead, police said.

Authorities are looking for a dark Volkswagen Jetta with damage in its front.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
