Durham police arrested a suspect Thursday in the killing of a 28-year-old man in eastern Durham last week.
Nicareo Earl, 21, of Durham has been charged with first-degree murder, police announced in a news release. He is being held without bail in the Durham County jail.
Officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Holloway Street and North Briggs Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday, The News & Observer previously reported.
They found a man, later identified as Saquan Facyson, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
As of Dec. 11, 261 people had been shot in Durham this year, 39 of them fatally, according to information police provided to The N&O on Monday.
That compares to 297 people shot by that date last year, when 30 people had been fatally shot.
Durham has had 47 homicides this year, more than in any year since at least 1995, the last year for which police have electronic records.
